Clarity Acupuncture is a simple operation that radiates out from Suite I of the offices above Early Girl Eatery on Wall Street. We are Sarah Thomas, L.Ac., and Matthew Daniel, L.Ac., and we are proud to practice an ancient form of Chinese Medicine called 5-Element Acupuncture.
Please move around our site, visit our blog, and read about what makes us unique. We have so much pride in what we co-create with our patients.
We both graduated from Tai Sophia Institute in Maryland, from which the first accredited American Masters Degree of Acupuncture was created. Our direct teachers there were Bob Duggan and Dianne Connelly, geniuses and pioneers in the field of true healthcare.
The soul of the body of knowledge we inherited at Tai Sophia is concerned with real wellness-based healthcare. Acupuncture is simply a vehicle for an intentional movement away from the West’s specialist-driven dis-ease care system, which, along with a “striving for more faster” culture, has been creating disempowered patients.
Here, we attempt to restore common sense. We ask questions like, “What has been going well?” and “What would healing look like for you?” Along with things like, “What do you know works for your headaches?” and “What practices do you keep that create peace for you?” We also explore the basic and all too often missing ingredients of a moving life, like exercise, rest, drinking water, nourishing friendships, and creating time for stillness. Like an old-time visit to the village doctor, you will have plenty of time to let us know what’s going on, and how you feel it’s connected to the rest of your life.
Here are some of our beliefs:
Study after study has shown that it does not matter what modality is used. Anything can heal anything, as long as the patient and the practitioner have faith in the method. There is no one model in psychology that exceeds beyond the others, and there is no “right answer” when it comes to choosing your healing path. What seems to make the difference in healing is the quality of the relationship between the patient and the practitioner. It is the relationship that creates the movement. This is why we practice one-to-one, private, full-body acupuncture. We do not move between rooms seeing multiple patients. You have our full attention each visit.
We believe symptoms are teachers. They are like the warning lights that come on in your vehicle. The only way to approach them is with curiosity. Chinese Medicine is the philosophy of movement. It does not try to fix what is so. You will be surprised to realize that you had the power to shift your “stuckness” all along. When the body is awakened through acupuncture, you will begin to notice the wisdom of your body. Some things will change simply by the light of your new awareness. Other things will require you to practice new ways of being.
“Western medicine with needles” is becoming very common. That’s what we call symptom fix-it acupuncture. Most clinics in America and China run like a Western hospital. The patient comes in with a claim, and the doctor (“expert”) fixes it. Little time is spent exploring the roots of the phenomena, very few points are chosen to treat what’s well about the person, the patient leaves with little understanding of what occurred, or what his or her body may have been asking of them, and patients come to rely on the clinic. There is so much more to this medicine. The potentials lie well beyond fixing symptoms. When given the space, acupuncture can actually create spirit-centered awakenings. It can actually bring you to a greater realization of your destiny and potentials. We strive to bring your gifts into the light so much that you can begin to greatly and consciously serve the seven generations! We believe in keeping this inner tradition of Chinese Medicine alive.
